A small sample of projects at institutes of learning.

University of Missouri

Location : St. Louis, MO
Project Completion : 2000
Architect : Kennedy & Assoc., St. Louis
Truss And Roofing Installer : Gypsum Specialties, St. Louis
Project Description : New Student Center
Area Under TrusSteel : 11,300 SF

Description
This addition to the Student Center was a complex, round, multileveled building that was quite a challenge for the designer. The finished roof makes quite an architectural statement!

Buckner Elementary School

Location : Buckner, KY (Louisville)
Project Completion : 2001
Architect : Scott / Klausing Inc., LaGrange, KY
General Contractor : Stevens Contracting, Buckner, KY
TrusSteel Fabricator : Kintec LLC, Louisville, KY
Project Description : New Elementary School
Area Under TrusSteel : 31,500 SF

Description
When architects Scott / Klausing wanted to create an open feeling for the atrium in the new Buckner Elementary School, the sky was the limit - literally.  The exposed TrusSteel trusses and roof deck were painted sky blue, and the acoustical ceiling became layers of sculpted clouds, drifting over the atrium.  The result, an exception open space - indoors - and an award-winning design.

Univ. of Mississippi Institute for Advanced Studies, Oxford, MS

The round dome roof system, located at the pinnacle of the building, was pre-assembled on the ground and then lifted onto building.  This example of "rafting" saves time and money and provides a safer working environment.  Radially-framed TrusSteel trusses also provided the roof structure of the rotunda area (under the dome).  Standard TrusSteel trusses provided the pitched roof structure for the remainder of the building.

The dome and pitched roofs of this new Institute building reflect the vernacular of the existing 150-year old buildings at this venerable institution.

Port Charlotte, FL High School
