Univ. of Mississippi Institute for Advanced Studies, Oxford, MS
The round dome roof system, located at the pinnacle of the building, was pre-assembled on the ground and then lifted onto building. This example of "rafting" saves time and money and provides a safer working environment. Radially-framed TrusSteel trusses also provided the roof structure of the rotunda area (under the dome). Standard TrusSteel trusses provided the pitched roof structure for the remainder of the building. The dome and pitched roofs of this new Institute building reflect the vernacular of the existing 150-year old buildings at this venerable institution.
