Dubbed "the world's largest equine museum", the new Kentucky Derby Museum is a state-of the-art facility recently completed at Churchill Downs in Louisville, KY. Five County Stadium

Major League Trusses Top Minor League Stadium

TrusSteel trusses are topping a lot of structures in North Carolina lately with Precision Walls, Inc.of Raleigh, pushing steel through the plant, trucking it to project sites, having the finished products lifted to the top by crane and battening down the trusses.

"We design it and we install it," said Pete Greer, general manager of PWI's panelization and truss division. "That's why we stand behind what we do from beginning to end."

When a new stadium was needed for the minor league Mudcats, PWI was selected by Richard Beach Builders Inc., of Virginia Beach, VA, to provide the steel trusses. Truss designers on the job were John W. "Bill" Canipe of PWI and Rob Munich of Excel Engineering.

The stadium job required over ten thousand square-feet of trusses under coverage. They were made in PWI's Raleigh plant. Some trusses were unique because of the unusual roof pitches that required a five foot cantilever with an additional four foot overhang.

The finished trusses were trucked to Zebulon, NC, where they were lifted to the top of Five County Stadium and installed by PWI crews.
