 TrusSteel Tops New Florida Megachurch

.

.

The truss systems for the many roofs over the new Coral Baptist Church contained just about about every type of truss under the sun. There were piggybacked trusses, flats, drags, hips, commons, monos, and radials - with about every bearing condition under heaven: heavy steel, CFS steel, bar joists, and masonry. Over the main sanctuary space, four foot deep bar joists with hipped ends were used to cross the huge span, and a TrusSteel truss systems was placed on top of the joists to create the roof pitch. The many small cupolas and towers provided challenges that were solved using radially-framed truss systems.

Fire Station, Louisville, KY

The firefighters in the new Golden City station in Louisville, KY will never have to worry about their firehouse going up in flames. The new station received noncombustible TrusSteel roof trusses!

The large, open truck bays were covered with 85 foot clear span trusses that were shipped to the job site in two pieces, assembled together on the ground, and lifted onto the top plate.

Church Gets Roof From Above

One roof, one raft

On a sunny morning in October, 2000, the Pembroke Pines Baptist Church saw a TrusSteel roof descend on top of their new building. Within a couple of hours, the entire 22 ton roof truss structural system was in place and ready to receive its final layer - Arma-tile metal roofing.

"The Baptist church was the first ground-assembled TrusSteel and Arma-Dek project in the U.S.," said Harry Williams of truss erector Creative Concepts in Construction. "We used our MegaLift Technology to lift the largest roof section we've ever done. It weighed about 70,000 pounds and was about 15,000 square feet, that's about 5,000 more than we normally do."

But the job went smoothly and many members of the congregation showed up early in the morning to witness two cranes lifting the roof onto their new house of worship..
